how to hang a dartboard on brick

Outside of pubs and bars, playing darts at home can be a relaxing experience if you’re a fan of darts. However, many people may find it difficult to install a dartboard in their homes with a brick wall. After all, not only will you have to drill several nails to hang the dartboard, you can be left with unsightly holes when you remove the dartboard.

Subsequently, not everyone would have the luxury of drilling holes into their brick walls. If you’re renting a home, then chances are that you’re not allowed to make any changes to the walls and other constructs of the home. Doing so only runs you the risk of voiding your security deposit.

With these factors in mind, you may ask – how do you hang a dartboard on brick without drilling? Can it be done so you can enjoy a game of darts in the comforts of your own home? Thankfully, yes, it’s possible. Let’s find out how.

3 Ways to Hang a Dartboard on Brick

As a dart lover, it can be tricky to hang a dartboard on a brick wall if you’re renting a home or don’t wish to drill a hole into your wall. Thanks to a variety of advancements, however, hanging a dartboard on brick is now easier than ever. Below, you’ll find 3 simple ways you can hang a dartboard on a brick wall.

Drilling and Using Screws

This is the most standard process for hanging a dartboard. You will need a few tools in order to do this:

  • Drill
  • Mason Drill Bit
  • Screws
  • Anchors
  • Sharpie

A regular drill can be used for this process, but a hammer drill will make it easier.

First you will need to measure out the distance from the ground to your dartboards bullseye. Make markings on your brick on where you will need to drill the hole, or holes depending on how many screws your dartboard will need in order to be properly mounted.

Go ahead and predrill your holes. These holes should be slightly smaller than the anchors you will be using so that the anchors will have a tight fit. Using anchors will ensure that your screws will have a solid grip when mounting your dartboard.

If it is wobbly, simply tighten or loosen the brackets that you placed around the dartboard until it fits snugly to the wall. You may have to adjust the main screw in the center of the board as well.

Some dartboards, like the Winmau Blade 5, offer a wheel lock and leveling system built in to the dartboard to make hanging it on any surface easy.

Use a Brick Clip

Also known as a brick hanger, a brick clip is a great alternative to hang up your dartboard without drilling a hole. This works best with exposed bricks, as the clip works by grasping onto the groves between bricks. It’s widely used to hang art on brick walls and are easily available in local hardware stores worldwide.

We recommend using a standard size brick clip like this one. This clip will fit most standard sized bricks in homes. If you are using oversized bricks, then you may need to look for a bigger size, but these should suffice for the majority.

Once you’ve attached a brick clip to the brick wall, you’ll then need to fix the other attachment of the brick clip onto your dartboard. Then, simply slide the dartboard over the brick clip on the wall. The clip should offer a sturdy hold for you to throw your darts to the dartboard as usual.

A downside to using a brick clip is that it only works for exposed bricks. With that in mind, this may not be an ideal alternative if you have a brick wall that has already been covered up with a layer of finish. This is as there are no grooves for the brick clip to attach to, and the clip may be useless in this case.

Use High-Quality Command Strips

Widely available in any arts and crafts stores or hardware stores, command strips are attachments that go onto your brick wall using a strong adhesive. This is a great alternative for anyone who doesn’t have the luxury of drilling holes into their brick walls or don’t want to damage their walls.

Command strips are often sold in packs of 10s or more, and you can use them for a variety of things around your household. They may also come in various sizes, but the large strips are recommended to withhold the weight of the dartboard and the impact of the darts when in play.

We recommend using these command strips by 3M. It comes with 14 pairs of command strips. Every 4 pairs is able to hold up to 16 pounds of weight. The average weight of a dartboard is about 12 pounds, so essentially you would only need to use 4 pairs of command strips to safely hang your dartboard.

Thanks to the use of strong adhesive, you wouldn’t have to drill holes onto your walls to use a command strip to hang up your dartboard. You’ll also have more freedom to choose where the dartboard should go, as you can fix the command strips almost anywhere around a room.

However, it’s important to note that there are some downsides to using command strips too. While they’re made to withstand heavy loads, some command strips can fail unexpectedly, causing your dartboard to fall after it has been affixed. As such, you should generally avoid hanging your dartboard over your bed or anywhere that you could get hurt.

Despite not damaging your brick wall with holes, the strong adhesive tape of the command strips can strip the paint off your walls. This is most prominent when you’re removing the strip from the wall, so you’ll have to remove the strip with care to avoid being penalized.
