Do Pokemon Cards Fit In Baseball Card Sleeves?

do pokemon cards fit in baseball card sleeves

As you may well know, trading card sleeves can come in all sorts of different sizes. This is to accommodate the different size trading cards out there. On this page, we want to focus on two of the more popular trading cards around; baseball cards and Pokemon cards. We want to talk a little bit about whether you are going to be able to put them in the same sleeves.

So, do Pokemon cards fit in baseball card sleeves? Yes, they do. The Pokemon and baseball cards are exactly the same size. This means that you will easily be able to put your baseball cards into the same sleeves that you put your Pokemon cards into.

Let’s expand upon this a little bit. This way, you will know the exact sleeves that you should be buying for your Pokemon cards and baseball cards.

Are Pokemon Cards the Same Size as Baseball Cards?

Yes. Pokemon cards are exactly the same size as the standard baseball card. This is 2.5-inches by 3.5-inches.

Now, this isn’t to say that some of the more unofficial baseball cards are going to be the same size as Pokemon cards. However, the ones that you can generally pick up in the store are going to be the same size as Pokemon cards.

The sleeves that you want for your Pokemon cards will be labeled with one of the following. Sometimes, they will be labeled with all of them:

  • Standard size
  • 2.5-inches x 3.5-inches
  • 66mm x 91mm

This should give you card sleeves that are the perfect size for your Pokemon cards. As we said before, this size is also going to be able to fit your baseball cards too.

Since this is the most common type of sleeve that is used, you probably shouldn’t have too much trouble finding them.

While we are on the subject, we do want to point out that Magic: The Gathering cards are the same size as both of these. However, Yugioh cards are a bit smaller. This means that sleeves designed for Yugioh cards will not fit either. So, it really is vital that you pay attention to the sizes that we listed above.

If you don’t, then you may end up with a size of card sleeve that is going to do nothing but squash your trading cards, which is the last thing you want. It will ruin the value and, in the case of the Pokemon Trading Card Game, you will not be able to play with those cards in an official tournament as they will now be considered as marked cards.

Ultra-Pro and Dragon Shield Card Sleeves

It depends on what you are doing with the Pokemon cards.

If you are planning on playing with them, then we suggest that you look into standard card sleeves from either Ultra-Pro or Dragonshield. If you can, try to purchase matte card sleeves. Not only are they a little bit easier for you to shuffle, but it is claimed that they are a bit tougher than glossy sleeves.

If you have expensive cards for collector’s purposes, then either card savers or toploaders should be fine. You won’t be able to play with them, though. This is because they are far too thick.

If you just have some cheap cards that you want to sleeve up, or perhaps want to keep your playsets together, then you can use some penny sleeves. These are the cheapest sleeves that you can buy.

What Are the Best Sleeves for Baseball Cards?

For the most part, the card sleeves that you can use for the Pokemon Trading Card Game are also going to work for storing your baseball cards. However, since you likely will not be playing with your baseball cards, and have them purely for collection purposes, we suggest that you go for something a bit tougher.

Pokemon cards, as you may well know, are part of a game. While there is a collector’s value in them, the cards have really been designed to be played with. This means that any of the card sleeves that you purchase are supposed to shuffle properly while, at the same time, offering a little bit of protection to the card.

However, in order for a card to shuffle properly, the card sleeve does need to be a bit softer. We can’t imagine that this is something that is going going to be offering the best protection for your baseball cards. Remember, even the slightest damage to a baseball card can drastically reduce its value.

Our suggestion is that you use card savers for the vast majority of your cards. You are not going to be getting any better protection than that. If you are planning on having your cards graded by PSA, then they will actually require you to send in your cards to them in card savers.

If you have cards that are a bit more on the expensive side, then we suggest that you use toploaders. These are thick pieces of plastic that your baseball card can just slide right into. However, we suggest that you double-sleeve here. This is because there is a bit more space for the cards to move around inside of a toploader than inside of a card saver.

For your cheapest baseball cards that you are probably never going to get graded and you are purely keeping for collector’s purposes, then you can just purchase some soft sleeves. Anything that is suited to Pokemon should be good here.

Final Thoughts

Pokemon cards are the same size as baseball cards. This means that they should fit in the same size sleeves.

The sleeves that you want for both Pokemon cards and baseball cards will be labeled as ‘standard size’. The same sleeves will also work with Magic: The Gathering cards.

Just because the two are the same size doesn’t mean that you should use the same sleeves, though. This is because baseball cards often need a little bit more in the way of protection owing to the fact that they are more expensive collector’s items.
