do yugioh sleeves fit mtg cards

Yugioh cards are significantly smaller than Magic: The Gathering Cards. As a result, a lot of people wonder where there is such thing as a universal card sleeve, or whether you need to buy Yugioh specific card sleeves.

So, do Yu-Gi-Oh sleeves fit MTG cards? No they do not. Yu-Gi-Oh cards are smaller than MTG cards. This means that their sleeves are smaller too. You could try and fit MTG cards in them, but it would be a rather tight squeeze and you may risk damaging your cards.

On the rest of this page, we want to talk about some of the best brands of card sleeves available, as well as the sizes that you need to be on the lookout for.

Are Magic Cards and Yu-Gi-Oh Cards the Same Size?

No. Yugioh cards are smaller than Magic the Gathering cards.

If you have ever played board games from Europe that include some sort of playing card, then Yugioh cards are roughly the same size as those.

If you are a fan of actual card games, then you can think of Yugioh cards being similar as playing cards built for a game of bridge.

Basically, they are a lot smaller. Yugioh cards are 2mm shorter than Magic the Gathering Cards. They are about 3mm narrower. It may not seem like a massive difference, but it is.

What Size are MTG Card Sleeves?

If you are looking for card sleeves that will fit Magic: The Gathering, then you are looking for card sleeves that measure 63.5mm x 88mm. Don’t worry about those sizes being in metric. Nearly every manufacturer will use the metric system somewhere on their marketing materials.

Due to the imperial system no longer being as widespread around the world, you may not find it anywhere near as much. Therefore, search for card sleeves using metric measurements and it is guaranteed that you will find the right card sleeves for Magic: The Gathering.

In fact, just about any card sleeve in the Ultra Pro range should be pretty decent.

Do MTG Cards Fit in Yu-Gi-Oh Sleeves?

No.

Because Magic: The Gathering cards are slightly bigger than Yugioh cards, a sleeve that has been designed specifically for Yugioh may not accept Magic: The Gathering cards.

Now, MTG cards are practically bigger than Yugioh cards. This means that you may be able to squeeze them into sleeves designed for Yugioh cards. However, it is going to be an incredibly tight squeeze. This could end up damaging the card, so we wouldn’t really recommend it unless you had no other choice.

What Size Are Yu-Gi-Oh Card Sleeves?

If you want perfect-fit Yugioh card sleeves, then you are going to want to look for card sleeves that measure 60mm x 87mm. Although, do bear in mind that these are going to be quite a tight squeeze. You actually may find that these sleeves are going to be a whole lot better if you are double-sleeving. This is something that Yugioh tournaments have recently started to allow.

The standard Yugioh card sleeves measure 62mm x 89mm. If you buy these card sleeves, then you will probably be able to fit a perfect fit sleeve inside of them too. So, if you are planning on double-sleeving your cards, then this is going to be the best route to go down.

Remember, you can still purchase Magic: The Gathering card sleeves for your Yugioh cards. They are going to fit. However, that extra couple of mm of space is going to be making all the difference inside of the card sleeve. This means that your Yugioh cards are going to be bouncing around for side to side. This may end up causing damage to them.

So, if you are mostly playing with Yugioh cards, then we reckon that you should just stick with card sleeves built for them. The only real reason why you would buy and use other card sleeves if you are playing a lot of other trading card games and you really do not want to have a ton of different-sized card sleeves hanging around. This is just going to be inconvenient.

What Card Sleeves Are Best For Yugioh?

Many of the card sleeves that you can buy for MTG will also have a variant available for Yugioh. Here are some of the card sleeves that we recommend that you check out for playing Yugioh. Just remember to make sure that you buy the right sleeves for your cards:

  • Dragon Shield are card sleeves that you will find used in most Yugioh tournaments. This is because they are very high-quality and have a plethora of colors to choose from.
  • Ultra Pro Eclipse
  • KMC Hyper Mat
  • Monster Protectors Card Sleeves

Final Thoughts

If you are playing mostly Yugioh, then we suggest that you buy special Yugioh card sleeves. It will fit them a little bit better. Although, do bear in mind that you will not be able to fit your MTG card sleeves in them.

While some brands of card sleeves are better than others, we suggest that you try and buy a few different card sleeves. You will quickly work out which ones you enjoy handling the most.

Remember, sleeves do not last forever. You should replace them every 3-4 months.
